UNO!

we went on a little triple date last weekend. bowling was on the agenda. but not just any ordinary bowling, my friends. ohh no. it was UNO bowling!! first time Jae and I have ever experienced this. and it was a bit rough to say the least.

basically, each different color tells you the different ways you have to bowl. the rules were like this: one color was spinning 3 times in a circle, one color was backwards between your legs, one color was with your EYES CLOSED - scary!, and the other color was bowl laying down. yes, laying down on that floor. can we say gross?? ick.

if you drew a card with a number on it, you could take that many steps toward the lane before you bowled (which means if you drew a 0, then you have to bowl back by the beginning of the wood part of the floor - there's a pic below), the reverse card meant you had to bowl with your opposite hand than normal, and other crazy random things like that. ohhhh it was interesting! here are a few attempts at catching the action:

jae got the 'bowl while laying down' color. he was a much better sport than i.

post-spinning bowl

of course, i drew the color that meant bowl backwards PLUS the number on it was a 0. no steps towards the lane. luckily the ball stayed in our lane!

this was the best i could do as far as laying on the ground. i just couldn't do it. instead i kind of kneeled. my knees paid for it, but at least i wasn't quite as germy as i could've been right??

it was a pretty fun time, but a warning to anyone that tries this: it takes much longer than a regular game of bowling!! thanks to jacks & sarena and dave & darian for the night out!

no show

i find it's usually easier to blog when we've had something happen that's more exciting than just the norm. something that's been picture-taking worthy. something to show about, not just tell about.

well, we have had a few things out of the norm lately. like all last week, we house/dog sat for my friend Cara and her hubby Adam while they sun-bathed in Mexico. but i didn't take any pictures of the cute pups.

then this last saturday, we had a bridal shower at my house for my good friend Torrie. i think my mom has some pics on her camera, but i didn't take any.

sunday was my super cute nephew Ben's blessing. nothing to show for it.

yesterday was my other super cute nephew Milo's 9th birthday celebration. bowling and presents and cake and ice cream. (i refrained from having ANY cake or ice cream, thank you very much). yet again, my camera sat in my purse the whole night and wasn't brought out once.

so now all you get are these lame, half explanations of our lives the past week. i should probably be better about documenting things, not just saying that they happened. sorry folks. keep coming back please!! i'll do better next time.

planes & games & birthdays, oh my.....

I'M GOING TO WARN YOU HERE AND NOW...THIS POST MAY OR MAY NOT BE RIDICULOUSLY LONG AND BABBLY AND BORING. JUST SAYIN...

so we decided that since we had president's day off of work that we would make a *quick* trip back east to visit my sisters in maine and new hampshire.

*side note: we decided to only tell one of my sisters we were coming, and didn't tell the other one, and made it a surprise for them! when we knocked on the door, and my sister answered the door and saw us standing  there, thinking we were still in utah, she totally started crying and gave us big hugs and it was SO SO awesome. loved it.*

so we decided to get up super early friday morning, got on a flight pretty easily, flew to detroit, got in there a bit early so we had time to grab lunch, and then got on our next flight to portland, maine. for those of you who don't know, jae works for the airlines, so we fly free, but we fly (the dreaded) standby, too. so getting on those flights decently easy was a blessing for sure.

cold, snowy mountains out the window of our early morning flight out of utah

we literally spent the entire weekend playing games, eating, and just hangin out. cards, board games, the Wii, more cards - you name it, we played it. it was pretty nice to just sit back and do nothing! especially since it was so dang, bitterly cold outside.

all our new england babies! me, hana (poor girl had double ear infections - she was a trooper!), clara, zack, jae, kennedy, lizzie

we were planning on coming home monday, which was president's day and also happened to be jae's birthday. we happened to pick the perfect weekend when there were storms all over the mid east area. flights were canceled. if they weren't canceled they were overbooked. aka, not lookin so good for us standby fliers.

birthdays!!

well after hours of looking up what seemed like millions of different flights and places to fly and connections and everything else, we finally decided on flying out on the earliest flight tuesday morning (which happened to be my birthday) at 545AM to detroit. 545 people. that means we were up by about 345. can we say ugh??

well, long story short, (too late already, i know) we spent the next 12 hours in the detroit airport. no free birthday cake or anything. we finally got on a flight to kansas city, missouri (which got in late), we booked it off that plane, to the next gate (which luckily was right next door), and barely got on that one to SLC. we really shouldn't have gotten on that flight. it was a miracle. ahhh. salt lake. home.

this was the coolest part of the detroit airport. except that
at 8 in the morning, it's a little much

we finally reached our front door around 8pm. which was 10pm for us, since we'd been back east. that's like 20 hours. our bed has never felt so good.

and then it was back to work the next morning...

we were so thankful we did get to go and visit everyone. miss you guys already!!!

here's to our 2012 birthdays! may they be better than 2011's   :)

recap

so now that it's march, i can blog about february! haha. yeah, i'm a little slow. i know. my bad.

for valentine's weekend, jae and i decided we wanted to watch our friend's troy and leslie's baby izzie so that they could escape and have a little lover's day evening for themselves! so we went out the friday before to celebrate for ourselves. and what's more romantic than big ole burgers and ice cream right??!

of course, i didn't take a pic of the actual dinner part or even jae and me! only the ice cream got a picture taken. but it was certainly worthy. yes, that's a gigantic freshly baked cookie under all that melting ice cream. mmmm.

so on the actual day of love, we headed over to the jackson's. izzie was wide awake and just sat on the bed with us for a good 15 minutes, staring at us and looking all around. adorable. and then she got sleepy and mad haha. she slept on and off the whole evening, but was very happy her momma (aka her source for FOOD) got home when she did, cuz she was hungry!

thanks to the jackson's for lending us your bebe for a few hours :)

lame people & sad songs

so far, today has been a poopy day. i do not enjoy tuesdays. so here are my sad ramblings for this lame tuesday:

*how come just when you think you're starting to get the hang of something and you're starting to feel smart and accomplished, someone shows you how you're not actually that smart and crushes your happiness? story of my life today.

*i discovered the world of Pandora today. i've hear of it, of course, but today i've been aching for some oldies but goodies, and the radio is getting lame. so i'm currently listening to an array of songs on Pandora. some are sad, but they make me happy at the same time. know what i mean? plunging yourself into a pit of self-destruction by music somehow makes you happy. weird.

*just when i feel like i've been doing a good job at eating (mostly) healthy and i'm eating healthy sized portions and i go to the gym, etc etc, i'm overcome with a craving for a strawberry chocolate chip concrete from nielsen's, or brownie and fudge love it sized cake batter ice cream from coldstone (no, it's not just an ice cream craving, i know EXACTLY what i want). all of a sudden my stomach feels like it hasn't seen food in months and i might die shortly if i don't have it! lame.

*sometimes i miss the easy, breezy days of high school with michelle branch and avril lavigne and kelly clarkson to get me through my hard times.

*i still haven't gotten my wedding ring and bands saudered (def don't know how to spell that) together. it's been over a year now. probably should do that someday.

*i wish i had a window to look out of from my lovely metallic cubicle.

*how is it that we are always SO dang busy?? there never seems to be enough time in the day, yet what do we spend all our time doing? all i do is work. i don't have school. i don't have kids. why do i feel so drained and run-down most all the time? i need to figure that out. ideas?

*i sit next to bob. he's a middle-aged gay man (although the fact that he's gay has nothing to do with anything, really) who mostly ignores me, but sometimes randomly tells me stories about his 13 year old granddaughter getting caught stealing from the mall, or wants to show me a picture of one of his *awesome* tie-dye shirts that he made. sometimes he makes comments and i have my headphones in and i pretend like i can't hear him. is that so so rude? sometimes i'm just not in the mood for bob and his talk. sometimes he probably does say something and i really i really just don't hear him. i turn up the volume pretty loud sometimes to completely drown everything/everyone out.

*i love my husband. even though my work day today sucks, i know when i finally get home and am sitting in bed with jae or at the gym with jae or whatever it is, i'll be that much happier just because he's there.

alright, i think i'm done rambling. those weren't even good ramblings. i apologize. if you don't read this post, i don't blame you. but i do feel slightly better about my lame day now that i've told someone about it, whoever that someone is. so thank you.

until next time...
