five moment memoir

{because i'm feeling random...there's a random photo for ya. you're welcome.}

i admit it, i totally stole borrowed this idea from Torrie. she's smart and stuff. so why wouldn't i?

anyway, the idea behind this five moment memoir is to simply write down 5 things that happened to you that day. good things, bad things, weird things, random things. just write them down. they can serve as memories of funny things, crappy things to learn from, small happy moments to put a smile on your face, or dumb things you did and don't want to repeat again! it doesn't matter to me if they're important things or really unimportant, boring things. i just want to remember more of the details of my day-to-day.

it's currently 3:35pm (or 1535 if you go by military time, like me. but anyway...)
here are 5 things that have happened thus far today:
1. i had to literally dig my car out of the snow this morning. i didn't drive it at all the last two days so it was pretty snowed in. and even after digging it out, it still took me three tries to get out of my driveway.
2. it took me almost an hour to drive to work today. it was very snowy and slushy and slow. but the roads could've been worse.
3. i had cold pizza for lunch. i don't usually like to heat up my leftover pizza.
4. i haven't even drank one whole water bottle full of water yet today. which is so not me. usually i have two just while i'm at work, plus whatever else i drink at home.
5. i have officially "hit a wall". aka i'm done working for the day. although physically, i'm still at work.

what 5 things of (in)significance happened in your life today?

shmogiceland.

just made up that word.
it describes what utah has been like the past couple of weeks.
a gross, smoggy, foggy, slippery, muddy, snowy cold iceland.
in case we all die of cancer-like toxins from this air, here are some pictures of what it's looked like around here lately.

this is taken up on the east bench of SLC, which means theoretically you should be able to see all the way out to the great salt lake.

i couldn't get the garbage can back into it's normal spot on the side of the house (because of the piles of snow) so i just temporarily pulled it up in front of the garage. mistake. all the drippings from the roof made our garbage can a giant icicle. the whole top is one solid piece of ice.

and just today, a blizzard blew in and we are currently being dumped on. again.

i mean, i suppose i shouldn't complain too much. things can always be worse, right?
but then again...i'm kind of complaining.
i'll take an order of SPRING please.

PS: ice storms = weirdest thing ever.

number three.

Jae and i celebrated our third anniversary!

it was his turn to plan things, and he was very adament that it was all a surprise, so i didn't know anything about where we were going or what we were doing, except that he told me which days to take off work.

we left sunday after church. we dropped pup off at grandma's and headed to the freeway.
after about an hour of driving, we ended up at the beautiful zermatt resort in midway!

neither of us have stayed here before and it was so fun!
apparently our anniversary is at a good in-between time for the resorts (between christmas and sundance film festival) so the place was pretty empty. we got a free room upgrade which was super nice! a mini kitchen, HUGE jetted tub, fireplace.....SO cute and cozy.

we spent our couple of days roaming the hotel, swimming, getting massages and foot rubs, eating, sitting in the steam room, more swimming and hot tubbing, more eating, enjoying the fire both in our room and in the lobby area, lounging in our robes, drinking complimentary hot apple cider, and soaking in the jetted tub. it was fabulous. oh, and the best part? we walked in our room for the first time and Jae had called and had them put rose petals all around the room...on the floor, the bed, the tub. this guy is a winner, ladies. a real winner. and i am so happy i get to keep him for forever.

{please excuse poor phone picture quality)

i love you Jae!

bacon, egg, & cheese.

one of our favorite breakfast foods to make are breakfast sandwiches.
they're super easy and quick, and taste warm and yummy!
i'm sure many of you have made them before, but here's how we do it:

1. grab your bread/croissant/biscuit/bagel/whatever kind of sandwich "ends" you'd prefer
(we usually like just our good old wheat bread and we toast it)

2. put on some cheese of your choice
(we put it on the toast quickly so it can start getting warm/melty.
and yes, go ahead and mock me and my kid-style kraft singles...)

3. add your microwaved egg
(do you guys know/use microwave eggs too?
so easy and the perfect sandwich size!)

4. the pile on your bacon pieces
(best part, if you ask me)

and there you go!

easy and tasty breakfast sandwich.
what other quick breakfast concoctions do you make?

weekend plans.

it's friday.
hooray!
we're thinking we'll head up the canyon
and hit up Sundance tomorrow.

 got any plans?
stay safe & warm!

flip{ped} the switch.

so as i was driving home from work yesterday, i had the sudden inspiration.....

i need to go running.
i need to get in shape.
i need to eat healthier all the time.

 i need to go running...tonight!
 so i did.

i got home, changed clothes
(aka got layered up...hello 10 degrees outside),
turned on my music,
and went running.

i went running for about half an hour.
couldn't feel/move my face once i was done
because it was so numb.
but while i was running, i actually felt a lot better
than i thought i would.

of course, once i got home and stopped running,
i felt like complete garbage.
but ya know.

i have goals set in my mind
and i fully intend to keep them.
for some reason,
i feel slightly more motivated this time
than all the other times i've
"had the inspiration".

perhaps it's the fact that i counted
and we only have 7 weeks until we spend a week
in a swimming suit on the beach in Hawaii.

yesss. i can do this.

miss Bernie

"yes, this life is passing swiftly; our days seem to fade quickly; and death appears frightening at times. nevertheless, our spirit will continue to live and will one day be united with our resurrected body to receive immortal glory. i bear solemn witness that because of the merciful Christ, we will all live again and forever."
~ Dieter F. Uchtdorf

we got word this past saturday that Jae's grandma, Bernie, passed away early saturday morning.
while i didn't get the chance to meet this lovely lady,
i hear wonderful stories about her and the great woman she was.

you'll be missed, grandma.

one year old.

our trouble-maker sweet Zoey turns 1 year old today!
in honor of her birthday, we're throwing her a little puppy party tomorrow afternoon.
hopefully the snow lets up a little so we can have some fun and
the pups can actually move around outside
without having to prance everywhere :)

happy birthday Zoey!
we love you!

{yes, i made an invite and sent them to her puppy friends' parents. whatever.}

our list.

as i've mentioned before, i'm not big on making a hefty new years resolutions list every year, but i did jot down a few things on a note in my phone at the beginning of 2012, so i thought i'd do a little inventory and see how i did. this was my list:

.finish house & move in
.eat healthy/regular gyming
.get sealed
.make a baby
.save money

well, i'd say i consistently and completely kept about 2 of those. great record, eh? they were an important couple of to-do's, so i'm not too worried about it. we also accomplished traveling to china and malaysia, so i'd say that's something worth mentioning. we have a whole new year in front of us to keep working to be better and get things done, right? (it's easier to stay positive and motivated when you're not so hard on yourself. that's what i tell myself, anyway.)

so as for a list for 2013:
(you might recognize a couple from last year's list...)

.eat healthy/regular gyming (lose 10 lbs & keep it off)
.pay off debt AND save money
.get the exterior of our house looking...decent
.start a family
.make a habit of praying as a couple daily
.attend the temple at least 3 times a month (as a couple or individually)
.make "real" dinner 1-2 times a week (sounds wimpy, but trust me, it'd be an improvement)

i wish us luck.
.

newest member.

we have a new nephew!
Jae's brother Jens, his wife Audree, & big brother Ben welcomed
Jack Christian Horrocks
born on 1/2/13
8 lbs 2 oz
20.5" long

and so so sweet :)

jazz game.

for Christmas, i gave Jae tickets to the Jazz vs. Golden State Warriors game.
we were in the upper bowl, and
naturally, the Jazz lost.
but it was still fun to be at the game.

sushi & lights

we had a fun christmas date night with the oveson's and green's.
yummy sushi and amazing christmas lights downtown?
i could do this kinda thing all year 'round.

**thanks to mary for the photos. again...mine are all still stuck on my camera.

brunch.

{i will preface this post with a sorry and a get-over-it.....i'm way behind on all my holiday blogging, so i've just got to get them up. read them or not, whatever you prefer.}

basically, i'm up for any reason to get together and make breakfast/brunch.
it's my favorite food for sure.
so since my friends from way back when we were wee elementary school kids haven't gotten together in quite some time, we decided it was about time. and food would be the main attraction.

everyone came over to our house the weekend before Christmas.
we made all sorts of yummies to eat and sat and blabbed.
we also did white elephants, which is customary, of course.

new yearly tradition?
i think so.

**pictures courtesy of torrie. my photos on my camera are all still on my camera....makes blogging with them very difficult. thanks torrie.

{let it be}.

it's been decided.
this will be our
phrase/word/goal/motto/whatever else you'd like to call it
for 2013.

i feel very behind on my blogging lately,
and that really bothers me.
it makes me feel stressed!
so hopefully i'll get a bit caught up soon.

happy new years everyone!
here's to the best year yet.
