inspiration friday

i've been thinking a.lot. lately about our house and all that i want to do to finish it up.
it's just seriously lacking those finishing touches, you know?

and it's bugging me.
{not that i've done much about changing that in the last few months, but still...}

so the while the ideas have been rolling, i've been putting together a few things have been inspiring me to get our house a bit more polished.

picture collage/wall.
{i'm thinking white frames, though, not black.}

chalk wall!
{probably in the office.}

red curtain over the kitchen window.
{not necessarily like this, but just some sort of red to bring in a pop of color.}

grey dining room table.

for our bedroom.
{paint this on a canvas maybe?}

turquoise dresser.
{a dresser or nightstand or something.}

grey rocking chair.
{we already have a white rocking chair and a green one. perhaps the white will stay white, but the green definitely needs a new color.}

mustard yellow frames.
{already have a mustard yellow lamp, now i just want to find the paint color to match to bring in more of it!}

white-washed fireplace.
{this was Jae's idea, i cannot take credit.}

so whaddya think?

mister Ben & uncle Jae

just hangin'. aren't they cute?

i'm feeling a serious case of the mondays today.
last night was a little crazy, although it turned out to be one of my favorite nights of this summer.
i'll post on it later.

ps - can't get my header to center. i've tried everything. help?

inspiration friday

yes, this quote is from hunger games. if you think that's dumb or cheesy, so be it. but the beauty and truth in this quote remains the same, regardless.

i want to first, recognize these moments more often, and then embrace them fully for what they are. because they don't happen every day.

i'm in a sort of thoughtful, lovey, reflective, deep, almost-too-cheesy mood today, can you tell? :)

in other, not-so-mushy news, it finally happened to me. a lot earlier than i expected, might i add.
i ran out of picture-upload-storage space.
boooo.o.
you might've already guessed that happened, as evidenced by my (lack of) any sort of header on my blog!
well, besides just our name. and that doesn't exactly count.
don't worry, i bit the bullet and bought more space.
but until (hopefully) tomorrow, i can't add any more pictures, which means no header just yet.
until then, ignore the lameness.

happy friday!

baked beans

as part of our duties for the rodeo we helped put together, we were in charge (mostly Jae) of making baked beans. he got an awesome recipe from his brother that we used. i don't even like baked beans, but these, i'll eat!

you'll need:
2 cans Bush's baked beans
1/2 an onion
1/2 green bell pepper
1/2 pound bacon

we obviously made a (lot) larger serving for the rodeo crowd.
eight cans of beans!

make sure to chop up the onion and green pepper in little tiny pieces. put them in a pot with some oil until they're a nice brownish color

the trick with the bacon is to make sure you cook the bacon separately first so it's nice a crispy and then chop it up in little pieces too and add it to the pan with the onions and pepper. (it is a messy, messy job cutting up that cooked bacon!)

{Jae likes to add some of the bacon grease to the pan to soak in the onions and pepper a bit. it's really healthy and stuff ;) he also adds a couple other things to the pot, but i'm sworn to secrecy. sorry!}

when those are all mixed together, just add in the beans and keep it on some heat to make sure the beans are nice and warm and everything is mixed well. and that's it! of course, i didn't actually get a picture of the finished product. oops.

they're obviously best to eat right after you make it, so you get more crisp in your bacon with the softness of the beans. mmm it really is good, which i never though i'd be saying about baked beans.

girls nights

wednesdays & thursdays, miss 'Zosy' (as my nephew calls her) & i are home alone without dad to play with.
(and that's soon to change to tuesdays, wednesdays, thursdays, and fridays.....
not happy about that, so we won't talk about it.)
our nights often look like this.

but tonight, it's friday night. which means we'll get dad home.
which makes us both very happy.

sunrise

i took a quick picture of the sunrise today. mostly, it was just a bright red/orange ball of light peeking over the mountain top.
i love our Utah mountains and moments like this to brighten my morning drives to work.

happy wednesday.

rodeo & BBQ

only in West Bountiful do you have rodeo's for church ward parties.....

it was a new experience for Jae and i, and it was pretty fun :) we got to be on the committee to get it all planned. we held it on the adjoining properties of a couple families, and it was perfect! we realize more and more every day how we so do not fit in in this cowboy farm territory haha. luckily my whole family came so they helped us feel slightly less out of place.

besides the BBQ part, the activities included:
*chicken chase
*archery
*paintballing
*pig chase
*muttin bustin (no, i had no idea what this was at first)
*petting zoo
*horse riding
*dunk tank
*a shoot-out
*a rodeo clown

geez, is that enough? it was quite the party and there were TONS of people. and it was a blast!

the BBQers, Jae and Cody

the clown getting ready

sooo many people

chasing chickens!

chasing pigs

Elias liked to just look at the chickens

Hyde got in on the muttin bustin action. my picture taking was too slow.

Zack refused to smile.

little Hana girl hit all 3 targets with the paint ball gun. stand back!

that's what you get for being in the bishopric....dunked.

bear lake - mini reunion

i finally got the rest of the bear lake photos uploaded to my computer.

i'm calling it a mini reunion for two reasons:
1 - we were missing two family members.
2 - the entire trip lasted about 36 hours.

too short.
it was seriously perfect weather.
i could've stayed there for another week, at least.
now onto the pictures.

Grandpa was "watching tv" with the kids. River decided he needed a hat & pillow while "watching tv" ;)

Petrice came up for the day with her cute kids!

little Eli. how cute is he? and no, he's not really that little ;)

i have to make these next two extra big so you can see their faces....all 12 of the grandkids. so funny!

emphasis on the ears...

Liam randomly mooned us. it was SO.FUNNY. i couldn't get a picture quick enough - he had just pulled up his shorts.

and for my favorite picture from the trip..........
