the day the shaving cream exploded in a box.

yep. it happened. and it wasn't the coolest thing ever.

i guess that's our sign we need to get our behinds in gear and get the rest of our random crap unpacked {since we moved in 3 months ago}.

point taken. it's now unpacked.
and everything's sticky with a pear scent.

like tacos much?

this picture has been circulating in some 'funny' emails the last few months, and it just still makes me giggle every time. i saw it again, and had to share.

here's to you on this lovely  hot monday :)

first pie baking experience

me, baking a pie?
scary, i know.

i wanted to attempt a strawberry rhubarb pie for my dad for father's day, but honestly, being my first pie i've ever made, i didn't really want to start with such an intimidating one like that.

so a few days ago, when i saw miss Sydney from the Daybook post about this easy peasy pie recipe, i knew that was my answer!

i call it a brown sugar apple crisp. that's my (un)official title. and it goes like this:

ingredients:
-apples, sliced (i think i used about 8 or 9 small apples, but would probably use more next time since when you bake them, they shrink a bit when baked)
-cinnamon & brown sugar mix
-pie crust

that's it!

arrange your apples and apply as much cinnamon/brown sugar as you'd like (i made a little extra for people to sprinkle on top after it was baked if they wanted) and toss it in the oven!

bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes. and eat.

i felt like my pie crust didn't get as brown and yum as i would've liked, but i think that was my own lack of baking with pie crusts skills to credit that to.

so there you go! my family was nice and told me it was good, even though it kind of looked like crap after we started dishing it up. but i don't think it ended up too horrible for being my first pie.

 {oh, sidenote: i didn't peel the skins off. Jae thought that was strange, but by the time we thought about it, i had already started putting it together and i didn't want to take it all apart and peel them then. so i left them. it didn't ruin it, but next time i'd probably take the time to peel them before.}

the birds and the bee's

or maybe we'll just talk about the bee's for now...

this past weekend we went to our first bee's game of the season. although we had lawn seats, we still had a good time! it was a bit warm and a bit bright for the first little while, but the sun started to go down and it cooled down and was perfect! we went with my sister Susan and her family.

Zack and Hana were being the usual goofballs that they always are.

the sunset sky was lovely.

the bee's lost (boo). but we still got an awesome fireworks show after the game. and seriously, it was really good! (of course, my pictures of the fireworks don't do it near justice. i swear these types of pictures never turn out great, right?)

it feels like summer has officially started after seeing our first ball game and firework show :) love it!

a day for my daddy

yes i'm 25, and yes i still call my father my daddy. cuz that's what he is. i've always been a daddy's girl, and i just love him so much.
{even though any and all grey hairs he has are probably from me ;)}

i'm so happy we have these days that we can dedicate to our dads. my dad is the sweetest, humblest, dorkiest, lovable dad that would do anything for anyone that he could, especially his kids and grandkids. he's so giving and always thinking of others. he's such a hard worker. he's always worked so hard to provide for his family and is so selfless, it's incredible. if there is anything else good i could say about him, just add it to what i've already said.

he's just such a good person and dad.

i love you dad!! you're amazing.

3 minutes as a dancer again

about a week and a half ago, my cute friend Roxey invited myself and a few other girls to do an alumni dance with her at her studio's recital. she's owned and run that studio form the very beginning and it was their 10th anniversary. 10 years! i feel like that's a long time to own your own (thriving) business while being a mommy and wife. she's a champ, that's for sure. and she's totally still got it. after teaching dance for 14 some years and birthing 3 kids, she can still dance and look completely amazing.

anyway, like i said, she asked me to be apart of it, and i was somewhat dumbfounded. me? dance? yeah, i work at a dance studio, and sure, i can teach the little 3-5 year old tots class. and that's about where my dance life ends these days. but i decided to be brave because i love Rox and i know she really wanted this dance to work. oh, did i mention she asked us to do this and got us all together about a week and a half before the recital?? yeah...plenty of time right? eek.

well, it went like this:

14 dancers
2 rehearsals (5 hours total)
one 3 minute-and-something-second dance

we were all a bit nervous. most of us hadn't danced since our high school years. a few have had kids, and yes, 2 were dancing 25+ weeks pregnant (!!!). we all found something black to wear so we looked somewhat put-together, and most of us danced in bare feet.

i pulled muscles and got some bruises, but that's ok. i really wasn't too stressed about it, and in the end i'm glad i did it. some of you may be reading this, thinking "i don't know why she's making it sound like such a big deal". but when i haven't really danced in 8 or 9 years and someone asks me to dance (with a bunch of other girls that were definitely on a different skill level than i, might i add) in front of a live audience in less than two weeks? yeah...little nerve wracking. but it all turned out and we had fun and now it's over. that's usually the best part, right?

and honestly? it was fun.

Jae was able to come see me dance (he's never seen me dance ever!) and my cute parents also came, bearing flowers for me! just like they used to do at all my recitals growing up. it was so funny! and i loved it. i'm sad i didn't get any pictures of any of the dancers or recital at all, but i did take a quick snap of my flowers from my parents.

confession: this pic was taken a couple days after the recital, and the flowers were starting to droop. but i wanted to take a picture anyway.

PS: happy weekend everyone.

talk about smurfing

so as i mentioned, 6 of us girls headed up to park city friday to party hardy.

Mal, Bekah, and Heather went up earlier in the afternoon friday to hit up the outlets, and Lisa, Leslie, and i headed up later after work and stuff to meet them. we ended up having dinner at no name bar & grill (you should've seen it - us 6 kind-of-clearly-mormon girls walking through the bar, one of which being pregnant...it was slightly humerous). then we decided to stop at the chocolate store (duh - that's a no brainer) before heading up to the cabin. we also needed to hit up the grocery store for snacks and breakfast for saturday morning. well we ended up going all the way to the grocery store in heber, and then the cabin was actually in midway. we weren't aware how far it was outside of park city, so the drive was a bit longer than expected. but that's ok! lots of beautiful scenic views on the way :) i don't think any of us really took any pictures at the cabin. but we played games, at too much food, got sick, and ate some more. by about 11pm, we were all about ready to crash. we definitely don't stay up late like we used to. we're old and stuff now i guess. anyway, saturday morning we got up, had some yogurt, got dressed, and took some quick pictures on the deck before cleaning up and heading out.

oh - and we played the smurf game. i'm not sure if that's really what it's called, but have you ever played it? it's a pretty good time. first, you send one person out of the room while the rest of you pick a topic - a couple of ours were decorating a christmas tree or getting your hair cut. and whatever topic you pick - that's coded with the word 'smurf'. so the person comes back and tries to guess what your topic is by asking questions using the word smurf in place of whatever the thing is they're trying to guess. clear as mud? yeah i'm sure. but anyway it was a good time. laughs were had.

of course, i had to be ridiculous (and obviously very attractive) and do this pose:

cuz i'm awesome like that. until next time, girls!

overnighter

today i am leaving these two love bugs behind for the night and spending the night with some girlfriends at a cabin up in park city.

while i'm excited to get away with the girls (it's been awhile), i haven't really seen my husband since tuesday night, and i won't see him til tomorrow (saturday) night. which is kind of really lame. but that's ok, it's only another day, right?

here's to a fun girls night away! have a happy weekend!

newlyweds

this cute couple got married yesterday!

this is Haley and Jason. and they're adorable. Haley and i grew up in the same neighborhood, and she's like a little sister to me. i also know Jason from high school, and he's one of the good ones. they had their sweet wedding day yesterday, and i couldn't be happier for them. of course, i didn't take any pictures at the reception, but just know it was outside...casual, perfect weather, lots of awesome food plus more awesome desserts, and everything was lovely.

the whole time, i just kept thinking about my wedding and my husband and how happy married life truly is. i wanted to tell them all these things and tell them how much they'll love it and to enjoy every second and just be happy, etc etc etc. but i didn't. they'll find out soon enough on their own :)

i'm so happy for you Haley & Jason!!

bridal shower

this past saturday, my cute friend Torrie (and her mama) put together a cute bridal shower for our friend Kayla! we are so super excited for Kayla and can't wait for her big day in just a couple of weeks! of course, i forgot my camera, so i stole some pictures from Torrie...

it was SO good to see these girls! it's been too long.

we had it in the backyard. it was hot, but so nice!

it's blurry, but i love kayla's face behind me :)

yummy yogurt parfait bar! and a variety of coffee cakes. yumm.
the whole gang. i'm actually kind of amazed that we got this many girls together at one time. that almost never happens anymore!
i'm excited to see you all again in a couple weeks!

and then a goat came walking down the street...

so yesterday, Jae and i were just sitting in our living room when suddenly he got up, looked out the window, and said "um there's a goat walking down the street...you should probably hurry and take a picture."

wait what??

sure enough. some dude was just out taking his goat for a walk. and he had the goat carrying his fanny packs for him too. i mean, i guess it's not the craziest thing you could see walking down the street, but it was prreetty random.

saturday stroll

here are just a few snaps from one of Zoey's and my saturday walks. since our weekdays are usually so crazy, i want to make sure every saturday (and/or sunday) are a dedicated walking day for the pup, and i figure if i'm keeping track with pictures and blogging about them, that'll help me make sure i don't forget it! so here are a few from last weekend.

this cow was very intently staring at us as we walked up and still as we walked away. i'll be honest, it kind of scared me. all of a sudden that fence didn't look too sturdy.

hope you have a good monday, everyone.

oh! and a special shout-out to one of my besties in the whole world...it's Leslie's big 25 today! happy birthday dear :) love you!

us in our young, single ladies days :)
